Erase All Content and Settings of iPHONE?
Hi All,
I am in India and I have just bought an IPHONE 3g (8GB).
These are the other details:
Version = 4.0
Model = MB489B
Modem Firmware = 05.13.04
I am thinking to Factory-Reset it as I want to remove/uninstall applications which are not of my use. I saw in Cydia -> Manage -> Storage that 90% of my “System” space is utilized.
I DO NOT need to take the backup of it as of now as it is new to me.
After doing “Erase All Content and Settings”, I believe my iPhone will go in DFU mode like shown here
I think the OS also gets deleted when we do this.
So, when I will restore iPhone from iTunes which OS will it install. I currently have iOs 4.0. I want to install iOS 4.0.1
I have downloaded it from here http://www.anonym.to/?http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/061-8616.20100715.phnt4/iPhone1,2_4.0.1_8A306_Restore.ipsw
Best Regards,
Ankur

on iPhone..Go to settings..Reset..Erase all settings..will delete all settings(except any media and data) There Is No Need To Go From 4.0 To 4.01 All Apple Did was to Patch A Jailbreak Exploit With The 4.0.1 Firmeware So 4.0 is Fine… I Would Really Go back To 3.1.3 Because On A 3g ios4 Is Sooooo Slooooowwwwwww
First of all: the 90% of “system” has nothing to do with memory that can be filled with music or photos or apps!!! It’s reserved for the operating SYSTEM. So it’s fine that it’s 90% !!! It won’t be filled any more unless Cydia decides to update something essential, and maybe it will go up to 91%. But don’t worry about it!
krazyblakk has no idea what he’s talking about. The http://jailbreakme.com exploit was patched in 4.0.2 not 4.0.1.
A legitimate website to download firmware is: http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
In order to upgrade to it, Turn off your phone, hold the home button while you plug into your computer that has iTunes open. Then hold the Shift button and click Restore. It will allow you to browse to the firmware that you want to restore to.
And DON’T “erase all content and settings” through settings. Very unnecessary, and then you will have to restore in DFU mode.
